Dandelion Biplane

A multi-role light transport biplane. The aircraft features a wire-braced biplane configuration with an all-metal fuselage and wings of mixed construction, fabric-covered. The upper and lower wings are connected by struts and bracing wires, while the extensive wing mechanization—including leading-edge slats and flaps—ensures high lift at low speeds. A 1,000 hp nine-cylinder radial piston engine is mounted in the nose, driving a four-blade variable-pitch propeller. The landing gear is fixed, consisting of two main struts and a tailwheel; this design simplifies operations from unpaved airfields. The Dandelion is capable of operating from short, unprepared airstrips, making it widely used for passenger transport, cargo hauling, agricultural work, medical evacuation, geological surveys, and airborne operations. The passenger version accommodates approximately 12–14 people, while the cargo variant allows for the transport of up to 1,500 kg of payload. Its maximum speed is around 250 km/h, with a cruising speed of approximately 190–220 km/h. The large wing area and low wing loading ensure stable handling at low speeds and a short takeoff run. Distinctive design features include a tall fuselage with side windows, a large upper wing, an opening cargo door at the rear of the cabin, and massive wing struts. Thanks to its combination of simple design, ease of maintenance, load-carrying capacity, and ability to operate from small airfields, the Dandelion is one of the most sought-after multi-role aircraft in its class.
